Prototype

Prototype

This week I have thought more about my game. I've decided off many people suggestion it that I should include a time limit in my game to make it more fun and exciting for the player when their collecting the items. I felt like I was getting better with Unity when following the tutorials but when I try to start my game off by scratch, I felt like I was kind of lost about where I should even start. I spent a good while trying to get my character to look like how I want him too but I found it difficult. Over this week , I will like to have got everything sorted but I think I need a lot of time during this week to get all my items and character and setting sorted and ready to go. I have a picture of the items and obstacles I want to include into my game:
An image of the items/character/obstacles I want to make on unity.

I will work on my Unity extra hard this week to make sure I get everything I need done and I will add my progress into my blogs straight away.

An Image of how I would love for my game to look, with the same angles.

I would like my game to be like that sonic screenshot. I would like for my footballer to be like sonic and the same positioning.

  1. Hey Aaron,

I have read through your blog and I would like to start off my saying first of all I really enjoyed it and I see what you are talking about with the struggles of trying to make your ideas come to life. I really respect the fact you are trying as hard as you can to make your idea come to life. I was wondering what if you made the character using YouTube tutorials to help you because I think it will be easier on you. What if you dedicate 3 days a week to your unity game. Anyway that is pretty much all I wanted to say but good luck to you.

  2. Hi Aaron

I like your idea for your game and so far you seem like you have a good idea of what your game will be like. I like how you drew a picture so people will be able to see what your game will look like. I also like how you made the promise to work hard on unity to get your game done.

Have you consider planning out each level and what each level will look like. I was wondering what part of the making the character you found difficult and how it has affected you making your game on unity.

I would suggest add drawings of all the levels so people will be able to understand what the levels will be like and each level will be different from each other. I also think you should add more images from other games so we get a better idea of the game.

  3. Hi Aaron
I really like your game idea and feel its honestly coming along great. I also love the addition of the sketches/concepts you did up as it really helps to give a real good visual of your character design , as well as a the obstacles you wish to place in your game.I was wondering if you have put any thought into if you wish for things such as wind/ weather mechanics to affect your game and I was wondering have you considered adding sketches of how you wish for your map layout to look or even some concepts for potential unlock-able items such as different colored outfits or ball designs to possibly add some variety to the game overall.

I really like how your game is coming along . keep it up man your really improving each week and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out. all the best mate

  4. Whats up Aaron,
Well done for getting this far with your game development. I think your in the same situation as me where you are completely new to any type of game development so your a bit worried about getting it done in time. Its good to see that someone is in the same boat as me. At least we are both trying our best and it seems to me that you have thought of a good game concept that is unique. Once you get the level design and the character done, the only major thing you have left to do the coding for the pick ups. I advise you to start looking for assets ASAP. For example look in the assets store for some sort of football assets pack.

One question I have for you is have you thought much about your sound design? Start thinking about your background music and your pickup sounds. Apart from that it looks like your doing well.
    Best of luck.

  5. Hi Aaron,

Great job so far on working towards your game I can tell you put a lot of thought into how you want the game to look and play overall. The image you have included gives a really good idea of how you want your game to look too so it's good that you have added that. It's good to see you are sticking at Unity and making sure you will put the time in during the week as I know it can be discouraging at times for us beginners.

Have you looked for similar projects online where you could maybe find some inspiration or even free assets for textures and skins? Looking for similar projects really helped me and gave me a better idea of what I wanted my game to look like so that could be something you could look for.

Overall I think you are doing great so far and I am looking forward to seeing where you go with your game and how it looks as you move forward.

  6. Hi Aaron,

It is really nice to see your game idea developing a bit more. I'm glad that you listened to everybody's feedback. After all, that's the whole purpose of feedback. Having an idea in your head can seem so perfect and great but when somebody constructively criticizes it, especially when several people have, you know that it can be even better. After all, the game isn't made for the maker, it's made for the player!

The images you've used in your prototyping drawings are very fitting, of course. I'm really excited to see how they all turn out digitally and in action.

One idea I just had was the inclusion of enemies/obstacles. I don't think there's any mention of those so I just thought that I'd say it as they might be a nice last-minute inclusion to just improve the overall game playability for the player.

    Looking forward to reading more!

  7. Hey Aaron,

I see that you are getting everything figured out and I hope everything starts to come together for you. I would like to say that I can see from the drawing and the prototype what you are trying to accomplish. I would just like to say that I fully understand what you are trying to convey from the image.

  8. Hi Aaron,

I really enjoyed reading about your game and seeing the amount of progress you have made! I can tell you have put a lot of time and effort into it. The amount of research you have done is great and it shows in your blogs.

I like the fact that in your game you're not just playing a match but there's a story leading up to it. It's a unique twist on a regular football game. I saw at the beginning of your project blogs that this is a multiple choice game. Will there be options to what items you collect? What exactly are the choices you have to make throughout the game?

The image you've drawn out gives me a good understanding for what you're trying to visualise. I think you're on a good path and with a bit more work, this game will be a great success. Best of luck with the rest!
